About us

Sanctuary View is an elegant homestay in Thattekad, Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. Situated in close proximity to the renowned Salim Ali Thattekad Bird Sanctuary and the Periyar River, the house features traditional and contemporary architecture with a captivating view of a lake and excellent access to the Bird Sanctuary, home to a diverse array of forest and water birds, as well as fascinating wild animals. Step into a compact paradise where nature’s wonders unfold with every flutter and rustle. We ensure our guests experience the warm hospitality of Kerala, combined with the natural beauty of this tropical travel destination.

The Villa

At present, Sanctuary view has only one villa to offer to our guests. The place consists of one principal bedroom with kitchen and washrooms attached and two other guest bedrooms with washrooms and dressing area.

The property is 15 years old and constructed with a sense of holding Kerala traditional house aesthetics and modern amenities inclusion in mind. The house amid in an area with tress and the clay roof tiles and wooden top of ceiling prevents heat naturally to great extent.

Nestled in the tropical countryside, you’ll find an array of charming little creatures, each contributing harmoniously to our local ecosystem. Our commitment to providing an intimate experience prompts us to limit bookings, ensuring that every guest receives our undivided attention and enjoys a uniquely personalized stay. Facilities

The villa can occupy six people in great comfort. Principle bedroom has an independent kitchen for people who prefer independent cooking.

The front yard can occupy a mid-size SUV and there is street parking very close to the property.

We are going to integrate Air conditioning and WIFI to the property very soon. To ensure all our guests’ expectations would meet and to make sure they have a very pleasant stay.

Food

At Sanctuary View, we offer a selection of traditional Keralan cuisine encompassing both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The culinary delights of our region range from delectably vegan dishes, featuring abundant use of coconut, rice, and vegetables, on the other side, featuring a rich array of seafood, non vegetarian dishes with Chicken, Mutton and Beef . The spice level is customizable to suit individual preferences—whether you prefer a fiery kick or a milder flavor.

Guests interested in occasional cooking are absolutely welcome to do so, provided they reserve the principal bedroom. Should there be any questions or concerns, we are more than happy to offer guidance and assistance.

Things to Do

The expansive greenery of our property and the nearby village offer wonderful opportunities for leisurely walks and birdwatching. Sanctuary View is situated next to the Periyar River, providing access to some of the most picturesque boating routes in the state. Glide along the canals in a traditional snake boat guided by a local boatman for a serene experience.

The estate is surrounded by the melodic sounds of various bird species. You may spot families of kingfishers, warblers, woodpeckers, egrets, ducks, herons, Brahminy eagles, and more. Beyond Thattekad, explore nearby attractions like Bhoothathankettu Dam, Injathotty Suspension Bridge, Chiyyapara Waterfalls, Paniyeliporu Eco-Tourism, and other easily accessible local gems.

Personal note

Hi, I’m Harikrishna Santhosh, and I’m part of the second-generation overseeing Sanctuary View, a family-owned venture. My father, Santhosh Subramannian, takes care of coordinating everything on-site, and I assist with managing our online presence and public relations. I have deep-rooted memories of Sanctuary View, dating back to its establishment when I was just eight years old. In its early days, before guest appointments filled the schedule, my cousins and I turned it into our gathering spot. Amidst playful card games, laughter echoed through the villa.This place wasn’t just a business—it was once my after-school center. I recall helping my parents set up the place for guests, exploring local markets to garner items for food preparation. The tranquil ambiance of Sanctuary View became my reading nook, where I delved into countless books. The veranda holds a special place in my heart. It served as my study spot, where I prepared for scholarship exams, pacing back and forth as I committed words, definitions, and tricky formulas to memory.

And oh, don’t miss the Nutmeg trees around the property. Try a Nutmeg fruit with a sprinkle of salt and paprika; my cousins and I considered ourselves culinary maestros, experimenting with various Nutmeg fruit concoctions.

For international travelers, Cochin International Airport would likely be your main gateway to Kerala. Sanctuary View is only 1 hour or 45 km away from Cochin International Airport (CIAL). Upon request, we can arrange pick-up and drop-off services to the airport. It’s easy for everyone to find the location using Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze.
